Failure to follow the FAQ and provide contact information will result in a warning and then post deletion
This forum is for teams or individuals looking for other people to work with on their games that are using XNA technologies (C#/XNA Framework or C++/DirectX). For example: musicians, artists, game designers, developers, testers (including beta testers).
Its is NOT for general help wanted questions, discussions about the games you are working on or your opinions on the games or requests in the post. If you want to discuss 'help wanted' things in GENERAL then use this thread.
Most requests should not have any further replies unless clarification, or more detail is needed.
Requests should contain the following information (If you want to use the gamedev.net request template feel free to do so but its not currently mandatory). If you do NOT give enough details the moderators will happily delete the post and force you to type it in again.
Title: Should contain what you are looking for and an short idea of the game
e.g. C# RPG team looking for artists and musicians
e.g. C++ Developer looking for team to join.
Provide contact information - email, IM or a web site. Posts without this will be deleted - we do not want this forums used for discussion. Feel free to obfuscate the contact information if you are worried.
[Note that as of June 2007 even public email addresses cannot be viewed in users profiles. The bug has been reported to the forum team but there is no ETA on a fix. So you can no longer say 'see my profile for email address' but will have to provide it in the request]
Body for Help WANTED:
- Title/description of your project and current team
- What you are looking for. Be specific about technology here - 2d/3d, C++/C#, Audio/graphics formats required
- Current state of the projects and how long you expect the project to take - are you doing the game in spare time?
- If you are offering any compensation or not
Body for Help Offered:
- Brief description of your skills - if you are an artist or musician link to your portfolios - if you are a developer then show something you have written even if its not a game. Be specific about technology here - 2d/3d, C++/C#, Audio/graphics tools you work with
- How much time you have available
- Cost - will you work for free or do you want a paying job
Notes:
- There are almost no MMORPGs, Quake/HalfLife/Halo clones done by small indie teams. If you cannot show a previous portfolio of games then posting such a request in here is not going to be taken seriously. You will either get inexperienced people or laughed at. Seriously - read this and this and start smaller. We have a discussion thread here if you want to comment.
- Games take MONTHs if not YEARs to write properly unless they are incredibly simple or you have some incredible coders. As a reference the SpaceWar starter kit took around 4 weeks of coding, 4 weeks of art and 2 weeks of audio time. (the total elapsed time was more like 6 weeks due to the API being in flux)
- Since help wanted ads often have compensation we do allow commercial posts in this forum but only "for hire" and "hiring" (no product sales) - IF (and only IF) the ad comes directly from the company involved. No agencies, no job websites etc.
- l33t spelling, phone text abbreviations, other cool methods of spelling and grammar do NOT give a professional impression and will reduce the number of people who will want to work with you. So try spelling words the traditional way, use capital and lower case letters and punctuation appropriately.
