There's no rule that says all FAQs should be made by The Zman even if it seems that way. I just happen to spend a lot of time in here. So if you think there is a valid FAQ topic then write one and post in in this folder. In general things in the FAQ should be answers to questions that come up a LOT in the main forums. If you can't find 5+ threads that can be replaced, answered or aided with a link to your entry then its probably not an FAQ and we will delete it.
However some points to note:
- Your post will likely be edited and updated by the moderators. There's a lot of value in us keeping the FAQs consistent and correct. If you are going to be offended by extensive changes to your post then don't post. This folder is probably the most edited and deleted folder in the forums.
- DO make the title of your post a question if possible. Something people will be searching for.
- DON'T make your FAQ too long - its hard to read.
- DO use plenty of bullets, numbers and headings to break into chunks
- We DO NOT encourage discussion in the FAQ folder and replies should be for suggested updates only.
- You should be prepared to keep it updated yourself. People will post replies and you need to consider if they make any good points. If so then cut/paste their content into your post. Feel free to make changes to be consistent and don't feel that you have to use everyone's content. Normally mods would delete the reply at this point but you won't have that permission so just add a reply saying "added to main thread - mod please tidy up" and we will do it for you. (or email me zman@thezbuffer.com and I will do it)
- If you think the reply doesn't fit in your thread then just notify a mod and we will tidy up the reply with a polite reply if we agree
What sites can be linked from an FAQ
- DO NOT post links to sites that are commercial or contain referrer or associate information (e.g. amazon associates)
- PREFER sites recommended by 3rd parties or ones you find yourself in the regular forums
- PREFER established sites. Personally I look for sites that have regular updates for at least 30 days. Then check in after 90 days and see if they are dead or if they were a one month wonder.
- DO remove old sites. If a site has not been updated for 3 months and doesn't have unique content then remove it
What if I have an idea for an FAQ but I don't know if its good?
Post a short version of it, with a link to some of the threads you think it will answer. People will comment and help build it up, or maybe the mods will let you know its not a substantial enough topic. Either way after a short discussion you will either have an FAQ or a reason why we should delete it. Please don't debate too much if we don't agree - this isn't censorship or a violation of your human rights :-) If its that important to you then you can always post it on your own blog
