    How to accelerate the performance of HLSL code

    My professor tell me that don't using the "if" in the HLSL.
    I saw a article Accurately Profiling Direct3D API Calls (Direct3D 9).
    But I get a litte sense about accelerate the performace of HLSL.
    Could somebody tell me which book or which web describes the performance acceleration in GPU or CPU?
