    No Product Key

    Hello all,

I'm learning to use the Live functionality in XNA 2.0, but I when finally establish the connection and all that, I try to sign in (by pressing Home) and I'm asked for a product key. I don't have one. I heard the product key was only given out with XNA 2.0 beta, and with XNA 2.0 official non-beta release, the product key would no longer be required. But I'm not using the beta (as far as I know), so should I not be asked for a key? How can I check to see if I have the beta or not?

I tried entering all 0's, to be thrown at the Live Sign In profile page with relief, only to sign in and get an "Invaid Product Key" message.

Yes, I have an active Xbox Live Gold Membership and an active XNA Creators Club Membership (I use Live daily, and can use XNA Game Studio Connect to deploy and test games with no problems).

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You have the beta version. The full version doesn't ask for a key. You should uninstall XNA and the Games for Windows LIVE and reinstall. XNA Game Studio 2.0 will reinstall Games for Windows LIVE for you. That should solve it.

    Re: No Product Key

Thank you so much Nick! Apparently, on my desktop PC I had XNA 2.0 beta. I no longer am asked for a product key. However, on my laptop, I'm still being asked for a product key. The start menu item displays "Microsoft XNA Game Studio 2.0" and not "Microsoft XNA Game Studio 2.0 (beta)" so it appears it's not the beta. But I'm still asked for a key. I'll try a full reinstall.

Edit: Okay, so yes, I'm an idiot. Turns out I did have the beta installed. I was looking at XNA 1.1 Refresh, so I didn't see the (beta) but looking further up my start menu I saw "Microsoft XNA Game Studio 2.0 (beta)" so I reinstalled with 2.0 full, and all is well.
