    Re: Where do you study?

I'm dual majoring in computer science and mathematics at the University of Missouri, and afterward I plan on either working professionally as a programmer (not necessarily in the game industry, although I do love game development more than any other programming projects) or getting a graduate degree in math and becoming a mathematician. Two very different potential routes! I dread when I must make a final decision.

I considered switching my CS major to a physics major, since I actually find physics more interesting than CS, but all my scholarships are for CS, and I can't afford to lose those.

Westwood College, yeah!  Gettin that degree in Video Game Development.  The best part for me is just starting, as I have recently joined the WOL IGDA Game Club, and found a place where I can really see myself becoming what I will.

    Re: Where do you study?

I just graduated this May with a B.S. in Computer Science at Washington State University. (Are we one of the last CS programs that tortures undergrads with C/C++ programming? Not that I'm complaining.) I'll be continuing on this fall for a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, also here at WSU.

But I do have an RPG that I plan on releasing with the Community Games platform, and if that goes well, I might drop out of grad school to start up my game development studio. We'll see; it depends on a lot of factors, not the least of which is Microsoft's announcement of the revenue model for Community Games.

Status: Meh. Brick wall on SilverLua. Plus, the launch of XBLCG is kicking my ass into gear to get a game finished, so I've been distracted.

Ha, not likely. I just finished freshman year at Rice University. The two intro CS courses are taught in PLT Scheme and Java respectively; the two (new) game programming courses are taught in Mathematica/C# and whatever-the-heck-you-want-it's-your-game-project-you-decide. The EE course I was required to take as a CS major included programming in binary, ASM, and C, and I've got at least two required courses coming up that are in C++, and one course on programming language analysis that drills about 10 different languages into you all on its own.

I guess they figure if you're drummed with enough different languages, you'll be able to somewhat comprehend anything you run into in The Real World™. I do know that the lab assistant in my game programming courses kept writing debug lines in the wrong language, whether it was Console.WriteLine, System.println, print, or just quotes. And the second programmer in my advanced game programming course was unavailable to work on our project for long periods of time because he had to implement gZip or an OS at various times during the semester.

It'd be a bloody stupid world if people went around getting killed without dying, wouldn't it?

    Woot First Post!

I just finished my IT degree at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where I was able to do 2 projects (one 2D and one 3D) in XNA during my senior year.  The RIT game dev degree (both bs and ms) takes you through C/C++, XNA, and they are even starting to offer courses for mobile and mac gaming, for those of you HS students interested in advanced degrees.

Our 3D project is going to get revamped and submitted to DreamBuildPlay, so keep your eyes peeled.

This thread is getting insanely huge, and I figured that I should jump on the bandwagon and post.

I'm a freshmore at Pine Creek High School in CO, and my study place is kinda suckish: in my computer chair next to a smashed up monitor on the floor.  (All those bits and pieces are very comforting w/a sledgehammer in hand).

    Re: Where do you study?

I'm an undergrad student at the University of North Texas pursuing a BS with a Computer Science major and Math minor.  I am also taking 4 Comp Sci courses on game development and programming for a certificate they offer.

Over the summer me and a few friends are working on a game for DreamBuildPlay.   Honestly, it probably won't be very good/fun/pretty, but we're going to treat it like it will be and and hope for the best.  Already I've gotten some great experience with the process of making a game.  I've been working on it for a week now and  I've already put together a team, made some documentation, and made a tech demo for the game.

After we finish this game I'll probably go back to brushing up my C++ and doing some non-fun tech stuff with it to boost my portfolio for summer internship applications.

Hi, i'm a part-time second year student studying for my Bsc in Computer Science at CTI in South Africa... I'm currently employed at a company as a fulltime web developer. My main language is C#... I hope to complete my Masters in Computer Science at Cambridge University in a few years. I'm also teaching myself C++ in my spare time...

    Well thats me...

    Re: Where do you study?

I am working on a Bachelor's in Computer Science at Fayetteville State University (FSU). I transferred to FSU after I graduated with my Associate Degree in Information Systems Technology from the local community college. I can't wait until next year so I can take the 3D programming classes and computer simulation classes they offer. Hopefully I'll be graduating after next year also.
