Racing Starter Kit Not In Templates

    Hi all

I just downloaded and installed the Racing Starter Kit for XNA 2.0. It installed okay, but it doesn't show up in the templates section like SpaceWar.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

It should show under the Visual C# project type (not the XNA Game Studio 2.0 sub-node) in the lower portion of the Templates in a section called My Templates, not the section called Visual Studio installed templates.

Do you have multiple versions of C# installed? It's possible the installer got confused and put it under the wrong version.

I'm also having this problem. Admittedly its with VC# 2005 express edition, I dont know if that makes a difference. When I install the starter kit I see the zip file under the '\visual studio 2005\templates\project templates\visual c#' folder but when i open a new project, it is not under either installed templates or my templates.

    Any ideas anyone?

I'm seeing the same problem. The zip is in the folder (I moved it into the XNA folder and that didn't change anything), but it's not showing up.

Same issue here.  I have both VS 2005 and Express, but the problem exists with both versions.  Maybe there was a problem with the changes it made to the registry?  Maybe it has to be done manually?

Ok I went to the registry, found a key that has to do with where templates could be sitting for VS 8 (my guess is that this is VS 2005?).

     C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\XNA Game Studio 2.0

Noted the other template zip files in there (like for Space Wars).

Copied and pasted the Race one into there...

    Didn't work. :P

    -addendum-

The windows one does show up, and is listed under xna game studio 2.0, but I'm trying to get the 360 one to show up.

I was having exactly the same problem.  On my system, it appears that the 'RacingGameXBox360.vsi' file was corrupted (bad CRC), so I suspect that is the likely culprit.

In fact, I unzipped everything, replaced the corrupted ('headers.png') file from the Windows version, zipped it all back up, and then the installation worked, albeit with a warning about the unsigned file.  From there, I was able to create a project and deploy it successfully to the Xbox 360.  (Cool starter kit, BTW.)

If this is the problem, it probably needs to be fixed at the download server side.

I can confirm this solves the problem.

ditto, i found the same issue, used the view files option while the installer is running and recreated the zip file with the bad png replaced, then finished the install.

Thank you all for your report.  We have confirmed this issue with the Racing Game starter kit (for Xbox 360) .VSI file, and when we have a fixed file posted, we'll let you know.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

The first few issues on this thread were also addressed by our new FAQ questions.

Re: Racing Starter Kit Not In Templates

We have posted new installers for Racing Game, along with the rest of the starter kits, that use the Microsoft Installer (.msi) technology.  This should address the problems reported in this thread.
