    Can't connect to my 360

For some reason, I can't connect to my 360 through Game Studio Connect anymore. I've generated at least a dozen new connection keys and made sure I transcribed them correctly, but it always ends up with a message saying that it can't find a 360 corresponding to the supplied key.

I can use the 360 as a Media Center Extender for the same machine without a hitch.

I got a title update that decided to apply itself to Connect twice, after which the connections stopped working. After that, I've deleted the 360 cache and redownloaded Connect, but it doesn't seem to have helped.

I have both GSE 2.0 and GSE 3.0 installed, but this problem started prior to installing 3.0. OS is Vista Ultimate.

Any hints as to  what I can do?

Re: Can't connect to my 360

Are you possibly using XNA Game Launcher on the Xbox 360? There are two downloads available on Marketplace, and that one is for XNA Game Studio Express 1.0.

For XNA Game Studio 2.0, go to Marketplace and download XNA Game Studio Connect. Besides the difference in title, the new XNA Game Studio Connect will display the connection key directly on the Connect to Computer screen instead of in a slide-out panel that disappears before you can test the connection.

If you are running the correct application on the Xbox 360, then changes in your firewall settings or router or wireless network connection could be causing problems.

To ensure that you are at least on the same subnet, try intentionally entering an invalid key when trying to connect. If the Xbox 360 can "hear" your PC, you will see a message on the TV screen saying that an invalid connection request was rejected (and it should show your PC's IP address). If you don't see that, then something is blocking the UDP broadcast packet from your PC.

The problem must be PC-side. I tried as you suggested and there was no message on the 360 about a failed connection. Was again able to initiate a Media Center connection, so I guess it's time to take a look at my firewall settings...

Re: Can't connect to my 360

There are several threads in these forums with troubleshooting tips. You should try searching for them.

One thing that has come up before is that if you installed VMWare, then there is some kind of incompatibility that it has with xnatrans (the app that connects to your Xbox console for XNA Game Studio). So if you installed VMWare since you last used XNA Game Studio Connect successfully, that could be causing a conflict.

    EDIT:

For more troubleshooting tips, see this thread:

You're right, the culprit turned out to be VMWare Player. After uninstalling it, it connects fine again. Thanks for the help. :-)
