Missing Importers in 3.0 CTP

    Missing Importers in 3.0 CTP

    In the CTP when I try to add any content, it is not possible to choose all the importers, like Texture for example. The only ones listed are Sprite Font, XML and XACT. Could someone tell me if this happens to them also, or if its just me? If its not just me is this intentional?

    You don't add importers... you add files and importers get associated with them. However some files have templates which is what you are seeing.

    If you 'add Exisiting Items' - and find some BMP, PNG, X, FBX files then they will be added and the correct content importer will be associated with them.

    Sorry, I badly phrased myself. I understand the process of adding content, yet when I do so, if i attempt to change the importer via the properties pane only those in muy first post are listed. As such I cant use any textures, as they are not being associated with any importer.

    How did you create this content project?

    If you somehow upgraded it from an older version, I would guess you did something wrong during this upgrade process.

    Do you have the same problem if you create a new project using the templates provided with the CTP?

    I just checked and its only with the current project. I did upgrade this from a 2.0 version, using the automated tool. What can i do to resolve this?

    I didn't know there was any automated tool for upgrading 2.0 to CTP projects?

    Odd, when I opend it in Visual Studio 2008 it started a wizard. Try it with a sample, as my code is based on the GameStateManagemnt sample. I could be wrong, but I seem to rember it doing so

    Probably a VS2005 -> VS2008 wizard NOT a GS2 to GS3 wizard... so it might have made some changes that break GS projects since they have some unuausl things in them.

    If you can repro this you should put it in http://connect.microsoft.com as it sounds like a scenario that will bite people in the future.

    I suspect that was the Visual Studio project upgrade wizard (e.g. 2005 project to 2008 project), rather than a Game Studio project upgrade wizard. There is no GSx to GSx+ wizard that auto-runs on a project. You have to select it from a context menu.

    Youre proably right, I skim read it at best :)

    ANy idea how to fix it? I cant open my project in 2005, because its now 2008, so how can I fix the Content project?

    Create a new project using the CTP templates, and manually re-add your content to it.

    I believe the CTP readme describes how to manually upgrade existing projects (automatic upgrading is not supported in the CTP) but if you no longer have your 2.0 project, that won't work for you.

    Fixed (I think). I created a new solution, and manually re-added evrything to this. This now works when I add content, thankfully.Thanks guys.

    On a side note, what benefits does 2008 have over 2005, from a code point of view? The only thing Ive changed is I now use Lambda expressions. Do these work in 2005? I only ask because I would like to test xbox support, and dont want to wait for the release.

     Edit: Not fixed. I have tried to add custom porcessors, and have added the project to my solution, thyen placed a referance in the content folder. They are not given as options. I ntoiced that one of my porjects when readded gave me a message saying the file had been modifeid, asking if it should be browsed normally or not. I didnt really get what this meant. Is this likely to be the problem?
