Can we post adult content games in this XNA site?
|
Are we allowed to post adult content games in this XNA site?
And what would happen if we post adult content games in this XNA site? The members will report abuse? Game deleted? Other consequences?
NOTE: Don't worry, I'm 18 years old in this XNA site.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: Read the terms of use and code of conduct at the bottom of the page. This is a family friendly site. As such you are not allowed to post links to adult content here. You would quickly find your thread deleted. If by "post" you mean "submit to XBLCG" you will find there is a list of prohibited content during the submission process. On that list is nudity and strong sexual content. So no, you cannot post or submit adult content to the forums or XBLCG.

Thank you for the short answers and long answers, but I know the terms of use and code of conduct. And my apology for asking you a question like this, I'm just wondering, okay?

If you knew the terms of use and conduct, you wouldn't have needed to ask the question.

Let me tell you something, Catalin, I think what I read about the terms of use and code of conduct, is, it doesn't say that I can post adult content games in this site or not, that's the problem, and I don't know.
I'll tell you what, Catalin, contact with the owner of this site(if is Chris Satchell who owns this site or not), and ask them if is okay to post adult content games in this site, if he or she said 'no', then ask them to put down new rules about 'not to post adult content games' in the 'Terms of Use' and 'Code of Conduct'. Or maybe I can do it by myself.
@Everybody: I'm sorry for asking a question like this, if any of you
are the moderators or staffs, can you close this thread for me, or
leave this thread open? Maybe you guys can contact the owner of this
site if is okay to post adult content games in this site, if he/she
said 'no', ask them to put down new rules about 'not to post adult
content games' in the 'Terms of Use' and 'Code of Conduct'.
NOTE: Could somebody help me finding the list of prohibited content in this site? Because I didn't know where.

The owner of the site is Microsoft. And you're currently conversing with 2 (and now 3, myself) moderators on this forum. You can't post links to sexually explicit content on this site because it violates the Code of Conduct. You can't post sexually explicit games on XBox Live Community Games because it violates the Terms of Use. So the answer is no.

I understand, George, and I abide and know the 'Code of Conduct' and 'Terms of Use'. That's why I obey Microsoft's 'Terms of Use' and 'Code of Conduct' by the time I was the member of the MSDN. And I will never post sexually explicit games on Xbox LIVE Community Games. That's why I trust the words from Microsoft.

I am getting a little curious myself on this topic. I am not asking about a game that includes nudity but drug use. Can I not make a game that will include lots of drug use?
The Code of Conduct is not clear in this area:
Don’t use XNA.com to do anything illegal, like posting any material or
information that is defamatory; is infringing; is obscene; constitutes
or includes child pornography, bestiality, or incest; is harassing;
promotes illegal drugs or illegal drug use; or is otherwise unlawful.
Does featuring the use of illegal drugs promote illegal drug use? I don't believe so. The code of conduct also states:
Don’t post or discuss anything that advocates or encourages expressions of violence, bigotry, racism, hatred, or use profanity.
..and I have clearly seen games that feature violence. They do not necessarily promote violence. And yet these are allowed.
I do want to also point out the rating system that we have which allows one to specify the nature of mature content to expect.

Thomas Bedran:Does featuring the use of illegal drugs promote illegal drug use?
It's probably down to how it's portrayed it but generally speaking regarding games I would say the majority I can think of featuring drugs would be classed as "promoting". I'd imagine it would be pretty difficult to get past reviewers with it anyhow

I think a game where you are a cop busting drug dealers would be okay. A game where you ARE a drug dealer... not so much. A gray area might be if you used fictional drugs, although best to avoid "drugs" at all if possible. For instance, you do do a game based on the classic drug lords/drug wars, but in the far future, with 'gene modifiers' or something.
Part of the reason for the restrictions is your title needs to be "world legal". There are some countries where your title might be distributed where promoting illegal drugs, even in a game might be illegal.
It's all kind of an ugly slippery slope though. How long till we can't make games that "promote killing". No more Mario Bros, Halo...

Just look at the review criteria. My interpretation is that it would be OK to have R rated drug use or sexual overtones, but not NC or X rated content.
Or, to draw a parallel to popular culture, the limit probably goes somewhere between "fan service" and "ecchi," with "hentai" being over the line. (Tentacles OK, naked schoolgirls not :-)
In the review criteria, there are criteria for drug use, language, nudity and sexual content. If you look at the degrees (0-3) for each, and your content would fit a "4" or higher, then a proper reviewer would classify your content as "not suitable for Xbox Live" and you'd be rejected.
In life, some people feel they always have to toe the line, and the problem with that is that, as soon as you're over it, you're in trouble. Thus, it's safer to play it slightly lame. It might be more boring, but it's certainly less hassle in the long run!

Umm.. I had a post here... did it got moderated? Saying something "might be illegal in some countries" is hardly legal advice... Not to mention the ENTIRE post seems to have been blown away...

Some posts randomly get sent into a moderation queue. It's nothing against any individual and just seems to happen randomly. I've approved your post and it's right above Jon's now.

Re: Can we post adult content games in this XNA site?

I was going to start a thread but here seems like a good place to ask.
I am converting my game 'Public Intoxication' to 3.0 and I started wondering if the game would even be allowed on xblcg.
It is basically a beat em up type of game but buying drinks and staying drunk are essential to the gameplay.
In addition to this, the player is required to urinate to continue fighting from time to time or when they drink too much alcohol. This consists of walking to the top of the screen and pressing a where he turns away from the player and a short animation is played.
I know demand is there for something like this but I just don't wanna spend the majority of time on this title if it can't make it to xblcg.

I'll agree with Thomas Bedran, I read the rules, and I don't want to post adult content games in XBLCG or XBLA, correct?
Besides, if I can post games in XBLCG or XBLA that was not related to adult content, then I'll better make sure that I'm fine right now according to ESRB.
