Does anyone know if there are any game sales numbers that are broken down by game category?

For example, how did the "Card & Board" games do compared to the other categories?

    Thanks.

    Re: Share your sales numbers

Hi, this are the numbers for Dokee the Dog and The Musical Rain, a game tageted for babies and kids. I was there the day after launch on November 20th 2008, and that was by far my best month. I got a lot of PR, more then 400 reviews on the net just for being one of the first 20 games available.
As I stated before, all earnings are going to be donated to the poor children of Venezuela, so thanks for all the people that bught it.

Row Labels Sum of Purchases Sum of Units
    Canada 15 744
    France 7 437
    Italy 2 124
    Spain 1 189
    United Kingdom 32 2120
    United States 127 6744
    Grand Total 184 10358

I wanted to add that I am happy with the results, as a hobbyist any income above $1K will pay for the console, the suscription and the books, and even buy you some 3D assets online. And since Dokee was intented to help the poor and not to make me rich, any amount is welcomed. Dokee is a 400 MS Points title, at current sales rate I will reach $1K this month.

I will definetly launch a second title, this time targeted for a broader audience to see if I can break the $10K mark. I really think $10K is a good number to "aim for" in your XBLCG budget.

I did a dev log update Weapon of Choice with graphs for downloads and sales. The top graphs are annotated with media coverage dates. It also covers per-country numbers which are fun to see broken out.

Yeah, I could only dream of getting that many downloads. Just gotta get me some of that media coverage :D

But it seemed like not many people were actually buying the game at all. Which is surprising, it's a pretty good game.

I wonder how who downloads twice (or more a game) is counted. Anybody knows? In this case the conversion rate "lies".

It is, but it's also too hard. And IIRC the trial doesn't even let you play the whole first level.

After a request, I actually did a final pie which shows percentage sales and conversion rates. It shows them by region and it's pretty interesting to see the English to non-English conversions.

Scroll down near the bottom of the post for the new pie.

Not sure I understand the question but downloading twice does not count as two downloads. We only count the time the license was downloaded for the first time. There is no way to accuractely determine a true conversion rate. Only a trial/paid ratio

    Thanks for the reply.

So, if I'm not wrong, if I download a trial three times it is counted as a single download?
And what if I download an updated version of a game already downloaded?

Aren't MS points a bit more expensive in those countries as well? In the US 400 point game is $5.00 but in GB, France etc the conversion makes them more expensive. I could be wrong but it seems I have read this on these forums somewhere.

After conversion rates it's actually cheaper to get points with Australian Dollars than with US dollars :D

Whoa. Looking at Major Nelson's sales ranking:

    http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/04/09/live-activity-for-week-of-march-30th.aspx

My game sold 886 copies in the period of March 30th to April 5th (7 days), and didn't make the top ten. There are a few 400 point games in that top ten list, and extrapolating the data, it means they all sold greater than 886 copies in that 7-day period. Those are some really good numbers, especially for the 400 point games!

Honestly, I think that's a glitch. I didn't sell all that many copies than you in that time period, and I doubt the 8 people below me squeezed inbetween. NextWar should of come in at LEAST at #4, so I think there's a problem there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing is glitchy.  That would explain why RC-AirSim has been at the top of the list for months.

I'm looking at my sales data for RC-AirSim, and I think you're underestimating it's appeal.

Its been at the top of the list becuase its selling more than you. Accusing a whole system of being glitchy becuase you somehow think your game MUST be better is terrible sour grapes.

Of course, it's selling better than the game that I haven't released yet. :)

My comment wasn't intended to belittle RC-AirSim (I haven't played it myself since model airplanes don't interest me so I can't comment on its quality), but rather express my disbelief that any one game would stay at the top of the charts consistently for such a long time (although now that I went back and checked some of the earlier charts, it looks like it got temporarily dethroned from 1st place by RBR - Fading Memories for a week recently).  Given how the popularity chart on Live, Major Nelson's top 10 list, and individual developers' sales reports sometimes seem at odds, a glitch in the system would not be impossible.

I just crunched the numbers and I sold exactly 817 copies during the March 30th - April 5th period. Which means that NextWar should of beaten me on the list, since NextWar sold 886 copies over the same time period! So the fact that NextWar didn't even appear on the list is odd.

Thus, I can say without a doubt that there is a glitch in the system. And how RC-AirSim fits into that glitchy system, who knows.

Either way, it looks like the one bit of information we believed was trustworthy isn't as trustworthy as we first thought :(

Yeah, I'd agree that it's a little unusual that RC-AirSim continues to find such a large paying audience.  If it's not a glitch, it makes me wonder if the XBLCG market is a revolving door with new users going in and out all the time.

I would say that would be completely true as new people are finding out about the Community Games Channel everyday.

Also I would note that RC Planes cost like $200 USD for just an OK one. Not even a great one. Trust a kid with that? Just like NASA, it is much cheaper to give them a sim first until they prove themselves. I wasn't surprised at all that typically American father/son activity has sold so well.

Hey, and with RC-AirSim it's worth noting that Microsoft Flight Simulator was a big hit for windows, so this is kinda like a mini version of that. So I can see what it would be very popular.
