Looks like Ziggyware has been hacked

I've just been over there, 29th April 10:28 am London time and there's a huge list of 'online pharmacy' store rubbish set before the main info. screen. I'm posting this just in case it has any ramifications for any members here. It's a shame it happened; it's a great website and deserves much better than that.

Nowdays it is more likely that the DNS cache at your ISP was hacked than the web server its self...

Re: Looks like Ziggyware has been hacked

I was wondering why our work filter denied access to it this morning, saying it's a malicious site! :(

I'm still getting the same Online Viagra store at the top of the Index page, so I'm running every anti virus system I can get my hands on. Well, not Norton. Let's not get completely hysterical...

Trust me, if I could find the person that keeps spamming I would break every bone in their nimble body :)

With the help of the #xna chat room I have found the 'back door', removed the spam and added a logger to find who is responsible.

    Thanks,

That doesn't help me though. Your site is now on my company's site filter list. :(

Yeah. Unfortunately I have to have the 9-5 job to support the family and pay the bills. Not all of us can be a Z-Man. :)

I'm sure if Dave and Jim talked to their company's IT dept they could get the site removed from the filter so they would be able to access it again (provided all the malicious content has been removed)

The hard part would be trying to explain why the site in question is relevant to the job. :)

Re: Looks like Ziggyware has been hacked

I had mentioned this in another thread too - about a week or so ago I had noticed this. :(

With a little Bing magic and some keywords, you can access some of the cached pages. For example: http://www.bing.com/search?q=site%3A+www.ziggyware.com+3D+collision&go=&form=QBRE&qs=n

There's also the Internet Archive, which usually is a bit old, but still helpful.

If i dont, i'll attempt to recover what i can from web archive and google caches and create a similar site. ziggy saved my ass several times, ill miss it if its gone.

Re: Looks like Ziggyware has been hacked

As far as I know the issue is not the hosting he's on 1&1 right now which should have that covered - ziggyware is a custom site that Michael put together himself and I'm guessing like with most custom sites there are numerous holes. These days you are much better going with a pre build CMS system or blogging system.

So what he probbly needs most is a security expert who can review and fix up his code - likely for free which is whee it gets hard to find ;-)
