To me, this is no different from not being able to play a flight sim because you can't figure out the complex controls (I've never played a flight sim before, but I assume the controls are complicated). As another example, I know people who can't play twin stick shooters because they just can't get the hang of moving in one direction and shooting in another. As long as the functionality of the controls are correct, it shouldn't be a fail, even if you can't figure it out. Of course, it would be really nice if a game supported Y-axis inversion (and even nicer if they grabbed the player's default profile preferences), but I don't think it's a failable offense if it's missing.
