    XACT Problems on Vista

In case you were going to ask, yes, I've read the sticky.

It didn't help, though. Even though I have the .NET Framework 1.1 redist and its SP1, as soon as I turn on XACT, it crashes. I've tried running XACT in compatibility mode for XP, I've tried running it as admin, and I've tried both at once, but to no avail.

The error I get when launch XACT is as follows:

Xact.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

    Process id=0x29a0 (10656), Thread id=0x2c58 (11352).

Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.

The process id and thread id vary between launches.

I've also tried installing the August 2007 DirectX SDK (that's the one that has the same XACT version as XNA 3.0 does, if I remember correctly). Didn't work, same error message.
My XACT in my November 2008 installation of the DirectX SDK crashes on startup with the following error message:

Microsoft Cross-Platform Audio Creation Tool (XACT) has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I'm at wit's end. Any help would be much appreciated.

I believe the newest version of XACT requires the .NET 2.0 runtime, not the 1.1. I could be mistaken however.

I already has the .NET 2.0 runtime installed. That doesn't seem to be the problem.

I feel your pain, I  Have uninstalled C# and XNA multiple times along with the .net framework i have and reinstalled them all to the most updated versions and nothing has gotten XACT to work again.

    Same problem:

"Microsoft Cross-Platform Audio Creation Tool (XACT) has stopped working."

    My Setup:

    64-bit Vista Ultimate
    Visual Studio 2008 SP1
    XNA Game Studio 3.1
.NET Frameworks 1.1, 2.0, 3.5 with all known service packs

Any starter kits, etc., that include .xap files seem to be dead in the water until I can upgrade them, but I can't kick off XACT to do it.

Is there any resolution to this, other than installing XNA Game Studio on an XP box and doing the conversion there?

    Re: XACT Problems on Vista

I should add that I'm running Microsoft Cross-Platform Audio Creation Tool 3 (XACT3) by right clicking it and running as Administrator.

    Re: XACT Problems on Vista

I don't have this problem any more. A while ago I lost my entire registry, so I had to reinstall everything, but this time I installed the .NET framework before installing XNA Game Studio. Now everything works fine. So if anyone else here has this problem, try uninstalling XNA, installing .NET 1.1, and then reinstalling XNA.
