I responded to this, but I think all the links flagged it as spam. A moderator will have to authorize it before it will post.

Re: Let's share our press and interviews

Our hits (2,000 more than shown if counting vimeo hits) surpasses Clover's which is quite something as Clover has a lot big-name XBLA-type press. Clover's marketing impressed me. I'm not sure how Deejay does it. (Nathan Fouts does an even better job, but we cannot compare ourselves to him yet!) Anyway, it made me realize we are not getting covered on the big sites, that send a lot of hits all at once, but we are high in the search engines, that send a trickle of hits continually. We receive more SEO hits than some of the better marketed games, which is why we surpassed Clover in trailer hits. We are first page results for a lot of search in youtube and google:
(all first page results unless noted)
google searches:
xbox+shmup
xbox+shoot%27em+up
xbox+2d+shooter
xbox+arcade+shooter (page 2)
xbox+360+shmup (edit: just bumped to page 2)
xbox+360+shoot%27em+up
xbox+360+2d+shooter
dual+play
youtube searches:
xbox+shmup
xbox+shoot%27em+up
xbox+2d+shooter
xbox+arcade+shooter
xbox+360+shmup
xbox+360+shoot%27em+up
xbox+360+2d+shooter
xbox+360+arcade+shooter
dual+play
shmup (page 2)
shoot%27em+up+game (without "game" the "Shoot'Em Up" movie gets all the hits)
2d+shooter
EDIT: It's hard to make sense of the above searches. The point is, we are among the top results of all general searches for xbox games in our genre. Imagine searching "xbox rpg" and your game results.
Anyone looking for shoot'em up Xbox games will almost surely stumble upon Duality ZF. It is not huge, but continually. I am hoping that we have small risidual sales for a year or so from our game, as it should remain one of the top shmup games on the Xbox until we can push out another game. Maybe our concentration on a niche genre was a good move. It's hard to say. It makes little difference to us really as we chose the genre out of our passion for it, not to hit a niche market.

Just listened to it. Good interview. Too bad it takes so long to get into it. Loved that you plugged other games. That was really cool. We have also stumbled in "the developer being more skilled than the average player" syndrome. It will be interesting to see how well Duality ZF does in peer review. Can't wait to see the scores! (I also responded more in this thread, but it needs moderator authorization again. I think it's all the links in my posts flag it as spam.)

Indiegames seems to be relatively easy to get on, and tends to give you a nice amount of traffic and copied blog posts. There's some weird Japanese site that gives a TON of youtube views; I was linked there for a day and got like 6k out of nowhere; I wish I knew how to get featured on there.

Matthew Doucette:I also responded more in this thread, but it needs moderator authorization again. I think it's all the links in my posts flag it as spam. Well when it's like 27 links to Google searches and YouTube you can't blame it. ;)
I've approved both posts and unflagged you as a moderated user. So unless you go crazy off the hook with links, hopefully it will leave you alone. :)

Just listened to the HotSpot - thanks very much for the shout out Aaron! Your continuing support for our games is very much appreciated. Great to see your game doing so well also.
Cheers
Phil

You also had some positive talk in the latest RebelFM Nathan, for WoC. Sorry, I can't remember the timestamp, somewhere in the middle I think.

Groov got mentions on 3 episodes of Rebel FM, 3 episodes of Listen UP, was featured on an episode of 1UP Game Night, and got a great sidebar in the Edge magazine article on Community Games. I've been completely blown away by the critical reaction to the game, it's really been awesome.
EDIT: Oh, and also last week's episode of Major Nelson's show! Thanks for representing, Kathleen.

Good stuff man. I am curious as to whether any of this was solicited in any way, or if it came about just from being released. Like were these in response to your press releases, a mix of both, etc?

CVO:Good stuff man. I am curious as to whether any of this was solicited in any way, or if it came about just from being released. Like were these in response to your press releases, a mix of both, etc?
Initially when Groov came out I sent out some emails to various sites and made posts on a few message boards, but I didn't have a very organized approach to PR. Nick Suttner, who used to write for EGM and 1UP and hosted 1UP FM and later Rebel FM (now works at Sony), mentioned my game on an episode of Rebel FM. From there, I got in contact with Nick, who also mentioned Groov on Listen UP. I had done some music work for John Davison's podcast, who is also a host on Listen UP, so they made that connection on air and he later mentioned my game on his podcast. The other podcasts were very happenstance, but mostly stemmed from Nick's original reccomendation which I had zero control over, but was pretty awesome as I have been a big EGM/1UP guy for the past several years (being relatively active in their community probably didn't hurt, though). Come to think of it, I did send the Rebel FM guys codes for Groov when they became available, since I'm a big fan of their podcast, which led to the final on-air mention.
I did solicit the OXM writeup of Groov by contacting Dan and sending him a .ccgame file. Rich from Edge Magazine contacted me though, and gave me a great writeup. I think the support I had from the games press led the relatively small but avid fanbase my game has, which is pretty cool!

That Famitsu bit is hardcore Nathan :) Seriously, you don't get much bigger than that in video games media.

We were recently covered in Develop magazine, issue #100 ( Download PDF, Read online) on page 52, as a part of a Canadian Special which starts on page 35. The other companies that were covered were Ubisoft (Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, and Vancouver), Funcom, Trapdoor, Frima, Davis, Enzyme Labs, Autodesk, Audiokinetic, Bedlam Games, Huminah Huminah, and Silverback Games! The last two are also from Nova Scotia!
