    direct3d problems, please help

Hi All, I am a total novice! I have just bought a brand new laptop with DirectX 10 & ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 graphics Card. Vertex shader is 4.1. (running on Windows Vista)
I keep getting error message as follows once I press F5:

    No suitable graphics card found
Direct3D hardware acceleration is not available or has been disabled. Verify that a Direct3D enabled graphics device is installed and check display properties to make sure hardware acceleration is set to full.
This program requires pixel shader 1.1 and vertex shader 1.1

I have checked and that acceleration is enabled. I have installed the latest video drivers. I have downloaded Microsoft Visual Studio Express edition. The error still persists. I downloaded the source code from the XNA creators club - version 3.0. My old laptop didn't have any issues and that ran on Windows XP SP2 with graphics card ATI Radeon Express 1150.

I haven't been able to code anything since getting the new laptop and I am gutted. Please help!

    Thanks 12

    That laptop should work fine.

Can you run other games? Download some game demo from the web, and see if it runs, or install something you have on disc.

Also, you may want to download the DirectX SDK and install it, and open up the DirectX Control Panel that comes with it to see what it says. It also comes with a number of samples -- you can build some of the samples and see if they run OK in C++.

My guess is that you're getting some weird kind of driver interaction -- it may even be the case that the driver on the laptop is b0rked, and you're actually getting "VGA mode" graphics. You may want to right-click the graphics card in the Device Manager and select "Update Driver..." from Windows Update and see if it finds something newer.
