    Premium Starter Kit

I've seen that a new starter kit has appeared here. But it's a starter kit for premium member. Or to be premium member we must have an XBox 360. Or I don't have an XBox 360 so I can't download the starter kit for windows.

It's sad, because premium member is for Xbox 360 processor, so I think that windows starter kit doesn't need to be premium member (but X360 starter kit premium member)

(Ps : sorry for my english...)

I have to agree.. I dont have a 360 and wont for quite some time (years?!).. So I guess if I want premium content, I need to go through my neighborhood, door to door asking people if they have a 360 I can use, and hope someone doesnt call the cops on me.. heh..

Hey guys, your feedback is totally valid and this is something we are looking to support down the road. As soon as we have a timeline or anymore information I'll make sure it gets posted here. But I just wanted to let you know that we are working to solve the issue but have no timeline as of yet.

    Thanks!

    I agree....I have no Xbox360 as well....or a $100+ membership.... :(

The whole XNA thing is great, but I'm not gonna buy a Xbox360 and membership so I can get the starter kit...

    Re: Premium Starter Kit

Remember that a lot of people paid $90 a year for the creators club based on a promise of some exclusive content as part of that deal.

Its great to get free content, but its also important to give those people who have paid the money some return on that promise.

(the real issue here is that without a 360 you can't purchase the creators club membership even if you were prepared to pay the $50 XBL and $90 membership fee)

Agree with The ZMan There definitely needs to be access to premium content to justify the $100 subscription price.

Just get someone to create a subscription purchase page on this website and you will resolve this issue. Just use Paypal for the shopping cart its the quickest and simplest solution. Thats what I did for my website and if you already have the bank account setup it should only take someone about half an hour tops to do this.

Can I just point out that this seems to be a silly restriction since the download is (as far as I can tell) licensed under the MS Permissive License which appears to allow it to immediately be redistributed to anyone?

So someone with a membership could just download it and host it for download on their own site for everyone to get.  I'm not sure restricted access to "free" software is really going to cut it as a membership benefit guys :-)

And just a note that I'd also be happy to pay $99/year to join the program if I could (and would already have done so if I owned an XBOX 360).

Congrats on being the first to state what I was talking about to some folk at gamefest when they announced this was a premium download....

As described here http://creators.xna.com/files/folders/162/download.aspx and actually it even says much the same here

"The game, originally created for Microsoft by Fabio Policarpo, comes ready to compile and run, and you are free to use its source code as the basis for your own XNA Game Studio game projects, and to share your work with others."

I've not looked at the actual starter kit yet to see if there is a more restrictive EULA or copyright in the actual download (currently checking) but your assumption seems to be correct.... not that *I* would take the risk of hosting a download on *MY* site ;-)

I installed the Windows version of the Ship Starter Kit and it asks you to accept the MS permissive license when you install and I cannot find any other EULA attached to the code so you can do whatever that license allows.

Or to play it safe, make a minor change in the code, like renaming the project to TheZShipgame and then share your "mod" with everyone, including source. :)

Though the license says that you don't need to change anything in order to redistribute it...

"A “contribution” is the original software, or any additions or changes to the software."

"[...]each contributor grants you a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free copyright license to reproduce its contribution, prepare derivative works of its contribution, and distribute its contribution or any derivative works that you create."
