which version of direct X is Suported for win Xp?

hi i download the direct X 9.0 and in the sample browser that have code of samples all have reference to the file d3dx9.h and this file doesn`t exist and i ask for if this file has been added with this directX9.0 or i have to download it? and if i install other DirectX no have this library Direct3D wich version i can use?

If you downloaded and installed the DirectX 9.0c sdk you have that file. My guess would be that Visual Studios wasn't properly updated with a file path to where the DirectX headers are contained.

Here is a link on how to do that for VS 2003. It's basically the same for later versions as well.
