Signing in to XBL while debuggin on PC

I apologize if this is a seemingly obvious question but I'm giving my first shot at signing in an account. Is signing in something you can test on the PC, or do I HAVE to send the build to the 360?

I've recently purchased Riemer Grootjans "XNA 3.0 Game Programming Recipes" and tried his  sample on signing in and keep getting an exception
"The function cannot be completed at this time: the Guide UI is already active. Wait until Guide.IsVisible is false before issuing this call."

Since he doesn't specify the build is going to the PC or 360, I thought that might have something to do with it.

    Thanks,
    Todd

Thanks for the answer. I ended up downloading the code for book from the publisher's site to take a look. There were apparently quite a few steps skipped in the book...and funny enough a spelling typo on the downloaded sample, but at least it was a consistent typo so the example still worked.

I just thought you may want to know that if you sign in and would like to test your avatars, you will need to be on the 360. They won't display on the PC.

From my experience you have to take most "programming books" with a pinch of salt. Some of them come out like they haven't even been proof read. When I was first learning basics for 3D programming the book I was reading from switched one of the variables round for working out a Vector Cross product. It took me two weeks to figure out there was a mistake in the book.

For the most part now when using a book, i'll do all the tutorials. See if they work... if they don't i'll mark the page. And find the proper way to do it online. This way when i'm flicking through my books for reference I can immediately see what was useful to me in the past and what is more than likely garbage.

Wow. Thank you for pointing that out since that would have most likely saved hours surfing around for why it wouldn't show up. I'm guessing the same is true for the gamerpic.

    I'll keep that in mind.

So far, knock on wood, I guess I've been lucky. At this point I've read through 2 or 3 C# books, with one of them also being very entry level on XNA so at least I'm starting to sniff out things that might be strange in the code. I just think I'll have to be extra careful with this new one that I've got. The bad news, for me, is that this one is the more 'intermediate' level XNA book.

    Thanks for the advice,

You can still view the gamerpics. Only the avatars are restricted on the PC.
