Textures for a tutorial

Basically I'm following this tutorial:

http://roecode.wordpress.com/2008/01/28/xna-framework-gameengine-development-part-7-screenmanagergamecomponent/

It states

For this article you will need four content items.

A menufont spritefont (include in the RoeEngine2.Content.Fonts folder).
A blank texture (include in the RoeEngine2.Content.Textures folder).
A background texture (include in your game content folder).
A gradient texture (include in your game content folder).

But what are they, what should they look like? I have no experience with textures of what so ever.

Does anyone have a nice tutorial of how to make a simple game engine I can use? But with enough explanation of what everything does.

It sounds like you might want to take a step back and try something a bit easier.

you shouldn't try to make a game engine as you are learning. you should try to just make a simple game.
For starters you could try going over the Beginner's Guides.

you shouldn't try to make a game engine as you are learning. you should try to just make a simple game.

That's all videos. I'm searching for written tuts, Video's go way to fast and my hearing concentration is not enough to keep track of it.

From the look of the texture names they look like the textures from the gamestate samples on this site. But I agree with the others start small and do not worry about developing an engine yet, get the basics right.
