    Black Lines in regenerated Maps

    Hi,

I have a problem already issued in the Noesis Forums:
    http://www.noesisinteractive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=470

I made the Timebomb from Noesis Tutorial Video but after recreating the maps i have strange diagonal black Lines in my texture. I have tested several output formats (i.e. png, tga... ) and all of them have the black lines.

Is there any workaraound/explanation for this problem?

I'm working on a new IMac (ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO mit 256 MB), but I dont think it's a Display issue, because everything is displayed OK, but the regenerated map (opened with photoshop) has these strage black lines.

If I apply this texture the lines are also in my model, just like described in the noesis Forums. I used the Textures from the Noesis Database, so that the original textures cannot be the problem.

Could you post a shot of your UV Map? You may have some polygons sharing areas you don't want them to, so check that and make sure that's not going on. Also, try opening up your explorer and pressing "M". Delete all your materials and then drag and drop the texture you want to use. Sometimes the mesh keeps the same UV Map but with multiple textures, which could be your problem right there. I had something like that happen to me this weekend, where I changed the textures and the map on a model, and ended up with lines and stuff going where they shouldn't (like eyeballs on the guy's butt). I deleted the materials, and reapplied the one I wanted, and it played out nicely.  :)

I've seen this too. I assumed it was just because its the free Mod Tool and the lines are there on purpose. If you get the full version of XSI then they probably wont be there. But it's not mentioned in the version limitations page, only that textures are limited to 512x512 resolution (which is a much nicer way to restrict usage).

    Cheers,
    Leaf.

    you can see it here:
    Picture
thats not my model, but the model of someone who has the same problem in the noesis Forums... Ill post my screenshot asap.

If i change the resolution of the new map, the lines are at another place, so that this cannot be a problem with the original model or materials.

    To Junkmailer:
I think it's a bug and not a restriction. This restriction would make the mod tool useless (in my opinion). I can live with 512x512, but i cant believe Softimage draws garbage over my textures. That would be very weird.

    Rendermap 240x240

    Rendermap 255x255

    Rendermap 511x511

    Rendermap 512x512

I hope someone has a workaround for this.

Btw: These lines are White, because when saving to png the Lines are mostly white. When saving to tga the lines are mostly black.

These rendermaps were all generated on my Laptop (Intel Onboard Graphics), so it cannot be the Imac Graphics Adapter causing troubles.

It could very well be that creating render maps in the new Mod Tool may have this adverse side effect. Is there a way to create the same effect in GIMP or Photoshop? Would you get the same problems if you applied a completely different texture to the mesh (like a basic brick texture for example)? If so, then its a geometric issue. If not, then its a render map generation issue within the program (maybe...just my best guess).

Re: Black Lines in regenerated Maps

It does not matter what texture i use, the effect is always the same. If i use the same dimensions for the rendermaps, the white and black lines are always at the same position. Regardless of the mesh or texture. (I also created the blue-red and yellow-green checkers with photoshop) it's just a texture...

Seems to me something like every 255th Pixel is white (at last for the first 386*255 pixels)... But why?

To Sn4k3 at Noesis Forums (who has reported the same problems):
I cannot register at noesis forums (they don't activate my account (i'm waiting already 4 days now)). I would have posted an anwser in the Noesis forums in hope anyone at Softimage reads the thread, but i cannot log in. I hope it's OK for you that i linked your picture in my first post. Feel free to link my pictures too in the noesis froums.

Hello, this is definitely a bug. We are investigating it, but we do not have a release date for a fix.

    Hey Alexandre,

Is there going to be a fix to this issue? I see it has been over 7 months since the last post.

Also, can you point me to a product comparison for XSI 6.02 Foundation and XSI 6.5 Essentials? One of the questions we have is whether the Foundations package includes Ultimapper.

    Thanks.

Sorry for the delay, as far as I know, there aren't any date for this yet. Foundation includes Ultimapper.
