How to stop XNA creator’s club subscription auto renewal

    Hi

I love the creators club for XNA but for the moment I don’t need it. Is there an easier way to stop the subscription than to call Xbox Support?

    Thanks

Sarge, calling Xbox Support is the only way.  Is there something about that experience that makes you reluctant to use it?

He may have had some bad experiences with MS Support. I know they didn't exactly make it easy on me when I went to cancel my xbox live account ( this was back in the day of the original xbox ) - so anything where you don't have to deal with the customer reps on the phone is a plus in my book.

p.s. - shouldn't this be listed under Misc or FAQ instead of this thread...?  (where are the moderators?)

Right here. Due to a bug in the site, some of us (maybe all of us) can't move posts. :(

I have no intention whatsoever of cancelling my Creator's Club subscription.  But I can sympathize with people who would prefer a simpler method of cancelling subscriptions than having to call a support number.

When I cancelled my eFax number last year because they raised the price, I had to spend five minutes or more listening to someone tell me all of the reasons I shouldn't cancel while having to repeat "thanks, but I really just want to cancel" over and over in increasingly less polite tones.

Not saying this is the case with Microsoft but I would prefer if you made it possible to cancel via a website, or maybe through the Xbox Dashboard.

Man.... I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN

I spent 30 mins on the phone just tryin to cancle a simple subscription, IVR then more IVR then identity verifacation, then tryin to make them understand that I just want to stop auto renewal - not the entire service......... Then some more credit card b.s. I mean I bought the membership in 2 clicks I should be able to cancle in 2 clicks

This is so true, why companies have to use this system? If I offer a good service I don’t have to make the service very easy to contract and very difficult to cancel, I had this bad experience whit life insurance, credit cards, ISP, and the list goes on.

If someone from Microsoft reads this make an effort not to make this mistake, is speaks very poorly of a company trying to force people not to cancel a service by making it difficult to do so.

I just spent nearly an hour on the phone trying to get my auto renewal cancelled before getting disconnected and got no where.  Xbox Live support doesn't seem to know what to do.  The last thing they said was I should be able to do it myself at msdn.com.  I don't see how.  This link says to call Xbox Live support.

Can anyone tell me how to cancel this or what number to call?

Xbox live phone support is the only place... i will escalate your experience up to the XNA guys becuase this isn't the 1st time.

My best suggestion would be to call back and insist on a supervisor.

I agree that its a horrible customer experience... remember 99.9% of calls to that number are very standard live questions. Its not surprising that most of the minimum wage, high turnover workers in the call center have never heard of XNA.

You should watch the XBOX Live Update Overview video. The lady gets to the part aboud downloadable games and the XNA Creators Club menu item. She basically says - "You'll also see the, uh, XNA Creatos Club where, uh, you can, uh, access any, uh, XNA, uh, games you may have." Really great PR there. ;)

Thanks ZMan.  I called again today (800-4MY-XBOX, billing option) and it was relatively painless.

Glad to hear it... we have seen this happen before. Some support staff have heard of it and know what to do - others don't know what you are talking about and instead of admitting that and transferring you they at best flounder around and at worst make stuff up - like 'you can do it on MSDN.COM' - just to get you off the phone.

Heh, I think that is his confirmation number for cancelling.  I got a similar number for my confirmation just now.  Btw, it took about 6 minutes to cancel the renewel (lots of account confirmation info: tag, name, phone#, live id, address).

Heh, this is sort of funny... I live in Denmark and have been trying to cancel my XNA subscription for months now. Absolutely no one at the Danish Xbox or Microsoft hotlines have a clue about what XNA is or how to cancel it. Just beautiful :-)

It looks like I need to have my bank stop all payments to MS because my XNA is set to renew in a month from now.

MS: If you are reading this please make an online cancel option for this!

Re: How to stop XNA creator’s club subscription auto renewal

Sorry to hear the bad experience... MS are not going to change their ways unfortunately as its the standard way to deal with service contracts in the USA. Easy to get but hard to cancel. They will call it customer retention or something like that!

All I can suggest is that you continually call and ask for supervisors until you find someone. If its easier for you to do this through your bank then do it that way.

Make sure to send polite feedback to xna@microsoft.com informing them of how inconvenient this has been to you.

Sorry to be a pain here, but a quick q if I may...

I've just been given a 4 month prem XNA redeem code for entering the DBP 2008 contest.  Which is nice :-) ... Is such a thing auto renewing? My cc is not on the console btw (shared system you see)...

The subscriptions obtained by redeeming codes do not auto-renew. To have a renewable subscription you have to pay for it, otherwise, they don't have how to renew it, since no payment method was specified.

Re: How to stop XNA creator’s club subscription auto renewal

Sad to say, 2 years after this person made this post, the practice of making it nearly impossible to cancel a membership has spread to the other countries "served" by Microsoft.  Canceling a membership is impossible online.  You're forced to sit on the phone, on hold, and you're lucky if a human ever picks up on the other end to let you cancel.

There is no reason for Microsoft to treat customers like this.  They dominate the computer industry and could continue to do so without forcing people into ongoing subscriptions that they no longer want and cannot cancel.  From the technical and account standpoints there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that Microsoft cannot put a CANCEL button on the account membership page of a logged-in user.  If you have the infrastructure to accept a payment online, then you have everything you need to accept a cancellation online, and the only reasons not to do so are GREED and DISHONESTY.

I strongly urge anyone considering giving up their credit card number for an XNA membership to STOP, research what you must do to cancel once you're "in".  As of February 2010 YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CANCEL online and I was left on hold for so long that my cell phone battery died when I tried to do it in person.
