Xna *IS* Xna Game Studio and Community games to the world and DirectX is still - DirectX just like it always has been. The MVPs have talked the MS about this many times and most of us have given up with the 'official' line becuase there's no serious attempty by Microsoft and we just look like fools when we correct people. All I can suggest is that you send them an email (directx@microsoft.com) and maybe if enough people point it out they will change it.

However these forums in general don't get much traffic... the Microsoft teams responsible for DirectX have not historically supported the product in here, nor in the previous MSDN forums so most people have given up posting. Yes its a shame, Yes the MVP have raised the issue many times and nothing has changed. Read into that what you will.

Hopefully you guys can post some DX11 questions and the team can show you things have changed but IMO you would be better off heading to the DirectX-l mailing list which has a really high sgnal to noise ratio and many, many native experts on it. There's also more native developers on gamedev.net for the most part.

Re: New Section for DirectX 11

I'm in total agreement Nirav.

I want DirectX 11 information & routing me thru several XNA hoops is counter productive & an utter waste of my time & everyone elses that's a serious developer. My intention is to reach 250 million end users with DX 11 work on Windows over the next 3 years. Not the 25 million end users on Xbox. DirectX is & always should be fire walled from XNA. It's a bit ridiculous now if you think about it; especially if I'm being nudged to go outside of Microsoft now in order to find more PC friendly, productive discussions on DirecX 11. Which by the way is arguably the best Graphics API they've shipped to date.
But, the way it is growing and Microsoft also encouraging use of Dx11, it is certainly bound to increase. Hence, if there is a managed space upfront for the upcoming developers to communicate, it will be helpful for all of them as well as the community.

This is my personal opinion and suggestion.
Maybe because it is, technically, Direct3D 11 only? ;)

Anyway, we all know that native DX developers flock to GameDev.net or the DIRECTXDEV mailing list as MS - and, to some extend, most MVPs as Mr. Perry exemplified above - do not seem to be too interested in supporting the native parts in these forums. Granted, both have been around longer than this place and were already valuable and vital resources, which makes it hard - if not impossible - to establish a new spot especially when the people are all hyped about managed code anyway : )

Re: New Section for DirectX 11

So how many DX11 posts have there been? Dx11 has enough new features to warrant a separate forum where they can be discussed. Let's make DX developer feel welcome in these forums.

Jim Perry:

I don't know that DX11 is that much in use

Because it's at CTP level right now. But it will probably get more use in the future, probably way more that DX10.

Nirav Shah:
I have escalated this, and I'll let you know when I know anything else. Microsoft has to make the decision, there's nothing the MVPs/mods can do about it.
With DirectX 11 getting more and more known and popular, there seems to be a need for a seperate section for it. As of now, queries related to DirectX 11 need to be put under Direct3D or Direct3D 10 section, which sounds inappropriate to me. It would be more convinient to discuss about the latest topics in a different section.

Thanks & Regards,

Nirav Shah.
