    Made in Canada !

    I there,

I'm currently working on a project and i'm a resident of Canada.

I tried to make a dummy release just to test and i've seen that the only region we can select is the United state.

i'm just wondering, can I still sell my games if i'm not a resident of United State over the Internet ? Will it be possible to release it on XBLA through this website ? Is there specials treatments that i need to wonder because i'm canadian ?

Help me releasing my game ! You won't regret it ! : D

For the beta of the community games site you can submit and review from anywhere but you can only play the games on a US xbox. So the release region only has a single choice. In the future you will be able to choose which regions you release your game for.

Right now there is no way to sell your game on any platform other than windows and there are no announcements on if this will even be an option on the 360, though we are all hoping for the ability.

You cannot release through XBLA without a publishing agreement. There are no country restrictions here if you can get published. Community games downloads are not part of the same XBLA games - they can't have acievements for example. Also right now they are all free.

Ok, and if i sell it on windows, do I have to buy the real version of visual studio or whatever ? Or I could just put my game on a website and make a link to a credit card page ?

And is there companies which can help me distributing or making my payment page with all the security and stuff ?

    Thanks

If you mean should you buy VS Pro instead of VS Express - no.

You can do the webstie and purchasing yourself or you can use a games portal. I'm not sure which are good. Cerainly none I have seen are selling XNA based game. Try Searching the indie gamer forums - those guys know MUCH more bout distributing than we do.http://forums.indiegamer.com/

Please search their site before you ask questions. In general they tolerate n00bs asking question they should have done research on much less than we do here (hint. ALL the questions you have asked in here are trivial to research on your own with a few minutes and a search engine)

Actually the ability to publish games to XBLA (not XNA Community Games) was discussed at last year's Gamefest. It was announced that their plan to publish games to XBLA all with a retail console fell though. However they were planning to make it possible with the use of a devkit. Basically you can program 95% of your game using a retail 360, you just need the devkit to finish it, adding stuff like leader boards, achievements and true skill matchmaking.

However at the time nothing was ready. I asked about it at GDC08 and I was pleased to find out that their XBLA plan was still in place and not overshadowed by Community Games. The XNA Extensions as they are called were supposed to be available for companies with Dev Licenses near the end of May. Meaning they should be available right now, but its not the type of thing they announce to anybody who isn't an official 360 Developer.

The newly posted Gamefest 08 overview talks about the fact they will be holding sessions about XNA Extensions. I expect we are going to hear a whole lot about it next month.

Correct. There are XNA Extensions for people with devkits to turn their XNA game into a full XBLA title. However the possibility for monetization through the Community Games has still neither been confirmed nor denied by Microsoft. That is what a lot of us are waiting for.

... yes with a publishing contract... there is no way for you to do it on your own.

I'm sure you will be able to hear about them but I doubt it will be of any use to most of the people in here given how few XBLA games there are and most of them are not XNA GS games.

Well, I know one that has been talking with Microsoft trying to get more professional XNA stuff moving, but hasn't made much progress :(
It'd be a bloody stupid world if people went around getting killed without dying, wouldn't it?

    Re: Made in Canada !

Once you try to get a publishing deal with Microsoft or some other game publisher then whether its written in XNA GS is largely irrelevant. You have got to justify your existance in a business and financial way just like every other commercial game out there. Microsoft may give you some special treatment if you come through DreamBuildPlay since thats all about publicity for XNA but any other way you just better have a damn fine game.
