QuickXAP - A Custom Content Pipeline & Stand-Alone Directory based XACT Tool Alternative.

QuickXAP is a product that empowers XNA developers using XNA Game Studio 2.0 to embed audio media directly into their XNA projects. Developers requiring more fine control over their audio projects can use QuickXAP in "stand-alone" mode automating only the creation of the required ".XAP" file which can be further customized using the XACT Cross-Platform Audio Creation Tool.

Traditionally developers wishing to add audio to their game projects were required to go through the painful process of learning to use and manipulate the XACT Cross-Platform Audio Creation Tool before they could move on in their projects. Where QuickXAP is helpful by abstracting the XNA developer away from the XACT audio tool(s) process giving them more time to worry about what's important, writing games.

Another powerful feature of the QuickXAP tool is it's ability to import most common audio file formats such as OGG, MP3 and FLAC files into a developers XNA project instead of being limited to just WAVE formatted audio files as constrained by the XACT Cross-Platform Audio Creation Tool.

I just wanted to give a friendly bump to this project. Once I realized I had to go back to 2.0 for Dream Build Play, I realized I had to deal with XACT which meant I couldn't just drop in some WAV files and hit run. QuickXAP was super quick to setup and gave me that ability again. I just drop some files in, load up the AudioEngine, WaveBank, and SoundBank, and play the cues in my code. I no longer have to manage the XACT project manually. It's really terrific and anyone looking for a nice way to speed up their DBP development should consider this tool.

    Nice work, Matthew!

    QuickXAP - Update v1.0.1.7

After some back and forth with Nick_G over a couple of crash issues I have worked out all the kinks I think. Things that have been updated in this release are as follows:

    - [PostProcess] Removed the dependancy on Win and Xbox folders. All compiled output is now dropped into the the source folder.
    - [PostProcess] Fixed the import of some MP3's causing QuickXAP to crash.
    - [PostProcess] When QuickXAP completes successfully the created XAP project file will be deleted so it is not deployed to the Xbox 360.
    - [ContentProcessor] Renamed the Importer and Processor to model the naming structure of existing custom content processors.
    - [General] Updated the internal wave file parser to support a more broad range of RIFF Wave format audio files.
    - [Documentation] Updated the documentation to reflect the new parameter changes and subtle information corrections.

    Download QuickXAP v1.0.1.7 from here.

Huge thanks go out to Nick_G for finding these bugs! Cheer!

If there is anyone else that is using QuickXAP and has encountered crashes this update will fix a good number of those crashes.

I've been getting the "can't connect to the auditioning server" bug with XACT and was hoping this tool would be a work around.  Can I avoid using XACT with this tool?

From the programming point of view its still an XACT file that is being used. You just don't have to go into the XACT editor any more. Just add the sound files to your project, set the properties and let the tool create and build the xact files for you.

Not that advanced xact stuff like parameters still need the editor tool.

Not connecting to the auditioning server isn't really a bug - just means that something else is using port 80 on your machine. Unfortunate design decision maybe but not a bug
