Hello,  I am unable to get the auditioning tool to work on my vista home laptop.  Whenever I try to play a sound the xact tool stops responding.  I have been doing some reading.  I have run both programs under administrators mode with the same result.  I also read that port 80 must be available.  when I run netstat -a -b I get some information on port 80.  It reads

Active Connections

  Proto  Local Address          Foreign Address        State
  TCP    0.0.0.0:80             bcq:0                  LISTENING

 Can not obtain ownership information
My computer is named bcq.  I don't know how to release this port to free it up for xact.  There is no program associated with it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you running a web server such as IIS? If so, the web server uses port 80 by default.

I've just had this same problem under Vista. I thought I had stopped IIS but still "netstat -a -o" showed PID 4 as using port 80. This turned out to be SYSTEM which puzzled me a little. A bit more digging and I found
'World Wide Web Publishing Service' still running. Stopping this enabled XACT to function correctly.
I don't know a great deal about IIS and my first instinct was to stop the 'IIS Admin Service' which made difference to XACT. Hopefully this might help someone who's not sure which service to stop. Thanks to David Hunt for putting me on the right track.
