XSI ModTool always crashes at Materials

    XSI ModTool always crashes at Materials

     Hi

    The ModTool always, really always, crashes when I am opening a Material. I updated it, reinstalled it and even applied the unofficial patch. I heard the version you pay for works fine in that prospect, but I can't afford it.

    Is there any way to solve the problem or did the programmers made the free version buggy just so one buys it?

    Same thing happens to me, I get a total system crash.  I asked about it on the XSI forums, they said it had to do something with the video card and not with XSI, but I convinced them otherwise.  It is a reproducible crash, and tried it on both ATI and Nvidia graphics cards.  Eventually, I gave up and started on Blender, another 3d modeling software.

    Yes, I also work with Blender, but only for the modelling, sinde Blender only supports it's own materials (No shaders, no fbx), so it doesn't satisfy me. On the other hand, I can't model with XSI, as its modeller just annoys me.

    I eventually found out that the ModTool does not crash if I open the same window via the button '7'. Don't ask me why, but it works fine.

    This happens when your video card drivers are unhappy. Some cards work, some don't... I believe it has to do with DirectX.

    In any case, you can still access the Materials by pressing F8 to get to the Explorer, and just filter by Materials. It means you have to ignore the materials window, but it's worth it if it means you don't crash anymore!
