The Ballet of Light and Shadows

    Hello everyone,

"The Ballet of Light and Shadows" is my entry for DBP 2008.

So...I am the french man responsible for this trailer : http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?vid=88a87803-5951-4d8b-ba99-dfd685e4af85 [Mod Note: Potentially not appropriate for work environments.]

I might add that I work full time in the video game industry, and I am really surprised by the number of high quality games who were submitted this year, can't wait for the results! :)

Concerning my team, I did most of the work (design, programming, graphics...), and got some help from a sound engineer for the music and sound effects, and a friend did the story writting.

In "The Ballet of Light and Shadows" you incarnate a shadow creature who is trying to escape from the wrath of a rainbow. In your quest, you deliver "The Rynths", who give you power to help you in your journey. Since you come from the dark, you can create shadows and hide into them. The gameplay is built around lights and shadows, and basically you must avoid the light to stay alive. The game features a story evolving though the 25 levels with additionnal 4 players co-op mechanics.

I am not planning to upload any ccgame, but the game will soon be submitted  to the Creator Club Beta so it will be 'reviewable' I guess! :)
The beta is over, so you will have to either hand out a CCGAME or wait for the launch of Xbox LIVE Community Games.

I would also suggest you make mention in your post that the first half of your video might be considered NSFW (not suitable for work) considering it's a bunch of girls wearing little clothing. Just a courtesy for some people.

But half naked men are ok to watch at work in 'merica?

We are boki. The rest is known.

The not so known part of the rest: It is Björn or Bjoern, but never Bjorn.

I don't think your boss or an average coworker walking by and seeing you watching men in underwear while you're in your cube would be cool either.

Yeah, that video almost got me in trouble at work when I was scrolling through DBP videos there. Why in the world are people in their underwear at the beginning of the video?

The three girls that you can see, and more generally the five characters that are in the video are part of the game. I don't want to spoil the story though, so you will have to find out for youself. It's all about the gameplay.

Arrogancy, I don't know what you're trying to say. Basically you can watch video at work, as long as this video includes only teen rated content ? My boss liked the video, i'm sorry yours didn't appreciate it :)

Basically the point is that while some places allow their employees to view forums and videos while at work (on break or during lunch, for example), they don't like having a video pop up of people in their underwear. I've gone ahead and added a little warning next to the link out of courtesy towards those people so they don't click on it and get in trouble.

Yeah, you just have to be careful with video content. We're expecting videos of games so we probably won't be cautious - seeing half naked people is not something we'd be expecting in certain situations.

As for my situation, personally, I can watch whatever I want to at work, basically (well not porn), but with discretion. But I work around a bunch of middle aged women. If one of them walks past and sees a video of a video game on my screen, I'm just goofing off at the moment - if they walk by and see a man and a woman in their underwea on their screen, they'll possibly make a fuss about it thinking I'm watching a sex scene or something, causing a big issue. See what I'm saying? That's why you need NWS warnings for anything outside the realm of PG when it comes ot things like that.

I work for a software development company that has approx 50 people. They have absolutely no problems with me watching some videos and such on my breaks/lunch. However, it IS the workplace and you have to respect your fellow employees. As much as I may enjoy the video at home, it probably would not be appropriate at my work place.

Also, the screen shots look great. Now I WANT to watch the video and have to wait until I get home :)
