New Community Games Category - Contest Finalists

There is a new heading in the Community Games section below 'New Arrivals',  called 'Contest Finalists'

The games in the cascade are

    Artoon
    BIOLOGY BATTLE
    Bloc
    Blow
    Colosseum
    Galax-e-mail
    Melvin's Meltdown
    SMASHELL
    Weapon of Choice

I don't understand what do you mean. Where is this, on the Xbox 360 menu? What's the contest you are talking about?

And what contest are we talking about? Any? Dream-Build-Play? Anyway, I think it's a good idea to distinguish games which achieved such a goal.

    Edit: changed content by contest

In this case its DBP 2008... which contest is important to us developers but remember this is a consumer interface... just knowing these games were part of a competition is enough for a gamer especially in a UI which is limited by making a good 10 ft experience. Plus its some good marketing for those games.

That is odd.  3 of those games do not match the top 20 on dream build play website.

I need to email creators and get Easy Golf put on there if that is the case.

Edit:  ZMan, I just checked on the Xbox Marketplace on the 360 and it is labeled as "Contest Finalist".

Two out of nine games on the NXE DBP finalist are not finalist

    Hi,

do you noticed that there are nine (out of 20) games in the finalist section on NXE? (looking at the games I guess is the DBP2008)

The games are: Artoon, Biology Battle, Bloc, Blow, Colosseum, Galex-e-mail, Melvins's Meltdown, Smashell, WoP

The weird thing is that Bloc and Melvins's Meltdown are not in the twenty finalist list.

3 actually.  Colosseum was also not a finalist.  Zman is aware of the issue and has escalated.

Nope, "In the Pit" was also a DBP entry but not a finalist.

Re: New Community Games Category - Contest Finalists

The new Contest Finalists slot is a great avenue to highlight games and creators that made it to the finals. The slot not only features those games that made it to the top 20 of Dream.Build.Play but also showcases other contest finalists from the Swedish Game Awards and later this year will highlight games from Imagine Cup.
My apology for the confusion this may have caused.
    Thanks

Well hopefully being one of the top selling community games is a nice consolation prize.. ;-)

    And how! :)

Like I've said in numerous interviews, I was expecting the DBP judges to "get it" more than everyday players, but I'm much happier that it's the other way around.

Yes indeed it is. That's why we would appreciate as a DPB finalist to appear in that list.

Re: New Community Games Category - Contest Finalists

I've read this whole thread, and I'm still confused.  What is the criteria to make it into the contest finalist category?  Why are games that have not placed in the top 20 in DBP2008 listed in there?  I just want to understand.

Maybe there should be a "Community's Picks" category where we all vote our top games in.  Games that did not make the finalists, but still deserve recognition.

    Errors?

    From Stephanies post:
    1. top 20 of Dream.Build.Play
    2. Contest finalists from the Swedish Game Awards - Warm up winner (Gravitex and Disco Fever??) [Full list of entries]
    3. later this year will highlight games from Imagine Cup.
    4. ?????

Which games are missing, which are there that shouldn't be? If someone can go through the list and post them I will get the list to Stephanie.

Not sure about the entire list but at least to this day Petank Party (a dbp top20) is still missing from the list.

    Matthew Doucette:

You have to remember there is a level of criteria here:
    1. You must have a game that was in DBP
    2. You must live in a supported developer country
    3. You must have submitted your game to XBLCG

Since DBP was an international competition where many of the games were not submitted to XBLCG afterwards, perhaps they simply filled in the list with other high-ranking DBP games that are on the system. I'm aware they missed Petank Party (and others), but perhaps that was just an error. For all we know Bloc took 21st so that might be how we got in. Or maybe they wanted to add the category primarily for future use and just picked the games that they recognized from DBP.

Just don't complain too much; I like that Bloc is getting some extra attention. ;-)

Re: New Community Games Category - Contest Finalists

Thank you to everyone for keeping me honest! Petank Party has now been added and sadly for Nick Bloc has been removed as was Melvin's Meltdown.
CarneyVale was added as they just came online last night.

Nick is once again correct in that not all games that submitted to DBP and made the top 20 were from countries that were able to submit to XBLCG's or as of yet they have not choosen to submit their games!

The channel was just updated to reflect the changes mentioned above so please be patient. Give it about 24 hours and it should show correctly.

Thanks again and to Petank Party- my apology you were overlooked.

Hey Steph, just checking whether the DBP 2009 top 20 that have now been released can be added to the competition finalists?

AFAIK this would include Square Off, Creed Arena, Sol Survivor and probably some others I haven't noticed yet.

    Thanks!
