Hey XNA Community,

I have recently purchased a new pc and i have just been going through the process of re-installing all of my old programs and drivers, although there is 1 program that i am having truble with (xna as you may have guessed, it worked fine on my old XP machine) and i was wondering if any of you can help, the installer seems to fail at the same point every time (yes i have tryed re-downloading and tryed many times to install).



If any of you could help it would be greatly apreciated!

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66GHZ
4gb Ram
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

I'm running it under Vista 64 Ultimate without any issues. Check you're running as Administrator, and that UAC is turned off.

I am running as admin and UAC is off.

From the screen shot you are at the stage where the games for windows live installs. You could try downloading the latest version from the MS Download site and try that first.

BTW, running on x64 ATM with out any problems.

Or try uninstalling Live For WIndows before you do the install. I thought the team had fixed that issue but there have ben some problems.

Can you please zip and upload your setup log files to a file server, then post a link here to where we can download the logs so we can investigate further?  The XNA Game Studio 3.0 setup log files are located at %temp%\XNA Game Studio 3.0 Setup\Logs.

Also, since the crash you are seeing is in the bootstrapper and not in one of the MSIs, it might help for you to try to manually install the components of XNA Game Studio 3.0 manually so you do not have to use the bootstrapper.  You can find instructions for how to do that in this blog post.

Is that the full contents of your GameStudioSetup log file?  I can't tell if what I'm seeing is being truncated by the PasteBin site or not.  It looks like it is just cut off in the middle.

that is the entire file, i have looked in other GameStudioSetup files, and they all cut-off at the same point.

Thanks for checking.  Unfortunately, that log doesn't really contain any useful information about the root cause of that bootstrapper crash on your system.  I'll keep an eye out in case this becomes more of a common pattern in the future.
