In case you were going to ask, yes, I've read
the sticky.
It didn't help, though. Even though I have the .NET Framework 1.1 redist and its SP1, as soon as I turn on XACT, it crashes. I've tried running XACT in compatibility mode for XP, I've tried running it as admin, and I've tried both at once, but to no avail.
The error I get when launch XACT is as follows:
Xact.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0x29a0 (10656), Thread id=0x2c58 (11352).

Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.
The process id and thread id vary between launches.
I've also tried installing the August 2007 DirectX SDK (that's the one that has the same XACT version as XNA 3.0 does, if I remember correctly). Didn't work, same error message.
My XACT in my November 2008 installation of the DirectX SDK crashes on startup with the following error message:
Microsoft Cross-Platform Audio Creation Tool (XACT) has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I'm at wit's end. Any help would be much appreciated.
