    Smearing edges with shader

    Hey everyone, hopefully someone can help with this. I'm trying to write a shader that will smear the edges of my objects and create sort of a paintbrush effect. The image I've linked below will hopefully give a better idea of what I'm after.

    Paint Example

    So far I have a solid edge detection system worked out and have experimented with blurring the edges but blurring it results in edges that are two soft and don't really achieve the streak look I'm after. Has anyone seen some examples along the lines of what I'm after or any creative ideas on ways to achieve this?
