    Clover not coming to XBLIG

    From here:

"At present it won't be coming to XBLIG as we're now way, way over the 150mb limit," said developer Daniel 'Deejay' Jones.

That's a shame, but as least it looks like people will be able to enjoy it on the PC, and with shiny new stuff. :)

    Congrats are in order though.

Perhaps an XBLA release isn't out of the question... porting it wouldn't be overly difficult and they've got (I believe) a 2 gig limit on the size of those games now.

But it already is on XBLIG... ???!

Or did you simply mean, that the "enhanced" Clover (with new animations, voice acting, etc.) won't be coming to XBLIG?

Yeah... that one, no enhanced version.

Given the political undertones of the game, I don't think Clover will be making it to XBLA. I doubt Microsoft would want to touch that can of worms with a 10-foot pole.

Re: Clover not coming to XBLIG

    Cheers for the congrats, Jim!

The new version, A Curious Tale won't be coming to XBLIG because of the size of the audio, and because of the new animations. We were about 1.5Mb under 150Mb with the original, and now all the characters are animated that's increased a lot, and there's generally a lot more content in the game. Add to that around 3,500 words of dialogue, and we'll never squeeze it all in! I've been very tempted to bring over some of the lightweight improvements to an XBLIG version, but then you run into issues of confusing the issue if, in a hypothetical situation, it was ever to make it to XBLA.

I'd highly recommend that any ambitious XBLIG developers do try and pitch their games about. I know Blitz's 1UP scheme are always on the lookout for interesting games, and they've been very helpful to me.

You should have stopped at the size of sound and graphics. The opus of 3500 words, even if each of those words were ALL the longest word in the dictionary, still ends up WELL under a megabyte :)

Really, you should consider optimizing your game content to be smaller. Not because of an XBLIG release (if you don't think the sales are worth it, or don't like the limited price points etc) but because some people don't have patience for downloading large demos, especially if they aren't on the best connections to the web. People aren't correlating larger file sizes to more content, they are making the relation of larger file sizes to more hassle. We've seen games like Dust with very high end graphics coming in at a low filesize (though it was well optimized, and uses a skeletal based animation system for enemies).

But more seriously now, congrats on the deal with Blitz. I've been thinking of looking for a PC distribution channel for Battle Beat or one of my future projects, although a lot of the fun/interest in Battle Beat has been being able to play it with GH/RB plastic instruments :)

I guess he meant "sound files with voice acting of 3500 spoken words"? Which would indeed be a bit larger...

Yep, that's 3,500 spoken words. Only I've been adding to the script, and last time I checked it's now 6,000 words. Eep!

Crumbs... Just did a .ccgame build for fun, and it's 512Mb. And that's without the dialogue! Probably a lot of trimming I can do though, I dare say a lot of the old content is still in there.

I've found the production of Clover to be quite fascinating, and want to congratulate you Deej for reaching this point.  I'm amazed that you have that much spoken dialogue in the game, and I don't envy the compression work you are having to deal with.
