    Paint directly to 3D model

Anyone know of any freeware that allows one to paint directly onto a 3D model to generate or edit textures?

I don't know of any freeware that will do this, but Maxon BodyPaint 3D will do it. I have it and it's a great product... well worth the money. Here's a link:

Wow looks around $900 on their shop. As a hobbiest this does not seem reasonable. Looks like great software though. I will dl the demo and check it out.

I think Hexagon 2 also does the trick. However, when I tried the demo didn't work that well for me on my desktop machine.

A pretty cool 3D paint program that I use for painting textures is Enzo. It works inside Photoshop.

Bodypaint is horrible and out of date. (edit: this is of course, my opinion - no offense to those who like it)

Re: Paint directly to 3D model

I recommend using Blender, because it’s free, and will do just about anything for as modeling.

Also I’m going to recommend using Gimp for photo, and image editing task, that is also free.

Here is the download order I used to get my models into XNA.

#1- Python     Free…(Prerequisite for blender, without it some features want be available)

    #2-Blender    Free

    #3-Gimp       Free

If it’s free, and it works, why pay for it.

Look up a free program called MeshLab. I'm not sure if it paints an actual texture, or just vertex colors though.
