Reading TextInput Device with XInput on Windows

Is it possible to use the Xbox chat pad controller on windows? I kind of hoped it would just hook up to XInputGetKeystroke and I would get VK codes back but it seems all I can read are the usual controller buttons.

Am I missing some part of the API or is the text input device Xbox only right now?

[edit] I just noticed that the chartpad never even lights up when its plugged into a controller connectected to windows... I guess this means the device doesn't work at all.

At present the Chat Pad is not supported in Windows. We are however in the process of determining its appropriate use and a possible future support timeline but there are no solid dates as of yet.

It's been a while and AFAIK this is still unsupported.  Any updates on appropiate use, future support, or solid dates?
