Re: XNA 2.0 - unable to connect to XBOX360

Well there is no value in it for me at this time. If there is no way to delete the key binding to the hardware, and there is no chance in getting that hardware back, then I can't continue. The first posting of this issue was before 12-15. We are approaching two months with this problem and no resolution or ETA. I bought the 4Month membership in December. I was out of commision in January becuase of the RRoD return, and now this? So I won't get to use this renewal period at all.

How hard is it to kick out a "Clean Key" utility for people that get new hardware?

For a number of reasons, a separate utility really isn't possible at all. We are working on an update to XNA Game Studio Connect. When it is available, it will be applied automatically when you launch XNA Game Studio Connect, just like title updates for games.

For the people who have been affected by this particular bug, we are attempting to resolve the issue on a case-by-case basis with them through e-mail.

For you, and for anyone else experiencing this bug, please take the following steps until we release the update:

    1. Go to the Feedback page (http://creators.xna.com/Feedback.aspx).
    2. Fill out the form, and describe your situation.
    3. Mention this post in your description, to help direct the feedback to the right people.
    4. Send the feeback to us.

If someone isn't sure whether you are being affected by this bug, please post to this thread and we'll help you diagnose it. Send the feedback report only once you are reasonably sure. Also, be sure to use a current e-mail address, or we won't be able to respond to you.

It may take a few days for a response, but we will get to it. This is only a temporary measure until the update is released.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ah great. Just got my 360 back from a red ring repair (replaced motherboard). Plugged my HDD back in to it and I now have the same problem of studio connect not running / crashing. I've filled in the form ... Help! ...With a DBP contest around the corner ... How depressing is this :o(

Re: XNA 2.0 - unable to connect to XBOX360

I've had a similar problem with the one noticable difference of not actually connecting the Xbox to a pc with GSC. Before I describe what I did, it may be worth noting the fact that I share a monitor between my PC and Xbox, but it only has 1 input, so I have to swap the cables.

Basically the follow series of events happened:

    1. I downloaded GSC within a week of release, intending to see how the interface compared to GSL.
    2. I ran GSC, causing it to generate a connection key. I wasn't in the mood for swapping cables so, I closed GSC and carried on with other stuff.
    3. Several weeks later, I bought a new 120GB HDD and a Wireless USB Adapter, and transfered the contents of my 20GB HDD on the 120GB one.
    4. My Xbox failed after about a week (apparently unrelated motherboard fault causing RRoD).
    5. With my Xbox returned (with seemingly fresh tool marks and a strange rattle inside - not a complaint, just commenting here), I decided to try GSC again... Surprise, surprise, it reaches the "Connecting to Xbox Live" stage and then the screen goes black, before dropping me back at the Dashboard.

Hi all.  Any word on when this is going to be resolved?  My 360 broke for the second time so i went and bought core system and just moved my stuff to it.  Unfortunately, I have already downloaded and run the GSC from the first console and now that the HD lives on my second console, it jumps back to the dashboard.  I work in Redmond so if one of you has a secret way of fixing it up for me I'd be more than happy to bring it to you lol :)

Does anyone have a way to resolve this issue? I filled in the form as requested in above post but still no word from XNA team - Perhaps they have all been busy at GDC 08? Which incidentally (with the annoucements) around community posting of games makes this technical hitch rather more annoying :-(

The folks who normally take care of this sort of thing have been pretty busy lately with GDC. Hopefully they will respond to you this week.

The update for XNA Game Studio Connect is coming soon, but it's hard to predict just when. When it goes out, you'll just have to start up XNA Game Studio Connect and it will download automatically. I'll post again to this thread after it's available so you know, if no one has gotten back to you by then.

As for the community games, this bug will not affect them. You need to download a different application, XNA Creators Game Launcher (or something like that -- I forget exactly the name, but there is a third one now), and then you'll be able to download the games off the XNA Creators Club twist of the Games Library.

Hi Stephen thanks for the update.  Quick question though.  Do you know if I buy a 120GB HDD and transfer my stuff over to it, if the problem will go away?  So here is the scenario:
    - XBOX1 w/ HDD 1 - Downloaded Games Studio Connect.  This worked fine.
    - XBOX1 broke.  moved HDD1 to XBOX2. - Doesn't work anymore (as we know that a fix is coming sometime in the future).
    - Buy HDD2 and transfer HDD1 items to it and then attach HDD2 to XBOX2 - Will it work or will it somehow know that the content was HDD1 even if I delete anything having to do with XNA?

    Thanks!

I'm not really familiar with what you mean by transfering items -- but if there's some kind of disk transfer utility for Xbox hard drives, then I imagine that you would be affected by this bug, yes. You cannot delete this particular file, unless you format your HDD.

If you've transferred everything from HDD1 to HDD2, then it is likely the transfer utility copied the problem file over to HDD2 as well. If you had a way to format your HDD1, you could do that and then re-download the XNA Game Studio Connect app. ...But I don't know how you would format the drive; I didn't see any such option in the System blade.

If you did not transfer anything to the new HDD, but just downloaded XGSC onto it, that should have worked no problem.

Ahhh I should have been more specific.  I meant using the data transfer kit that comes with the 120GB.  Thanks for the help.  I'd hate getting a new drive only to have the same issue.

Re: XNA 2.0 - unable to connect to XBOX360

Well kind of annoying but got everything working.  Backed up all game files that would let me back them up to MU.  Formatted the HDD and then moved everything from the MU back to the HDD.  Downloaded the GSC and now everything works fine.  New key was given to me.  DLC had to be downloaded again for games and had to also download some shows but I'm glad to see that it said 'Download Again' instead of having to pay again.  In case anyone needs to do this, goto the System Blade --> Memory --> Hard Drive.  Once you are there, click the yellow button (Y) and it will ask if you want to rename\format your HDD.  Choose format and you have to enter your serial number to ensure that you want to delete everything.  If you need further help formatting you can check out the KB Article @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906502

Time to go make a great game with cheezey graphics Smile
