  • Re: Making an installer for your XNA game (Windows)

Thanks for finding my article useful, YumYumMoose! I've been considering modifying DSetup for Inno to add support for Game Explorer. However, I wasn't able to get very far with that, as my primary development machine died a couple months ago and I haven't the money to replace it. (And in the meantime, I've been stuck with an old P2 that ...

  • Re: Loose Audio Files vs XACT Editor

Let's not stop at just adding support for .wav files at runtime. It would be very nice to have the ability to stream in audio from code as well.

  • Re: Methods of distribution

Matthew Power:Excuse me for being a total noob, but I was under the impression that creators club was going to include the ability to upload and sell games to XBLA. I thought that was the point to XNA. Mind you this is from an article I read in Game Informer a few months ago. It is why I downloaded all the stuff for it, and started the long ...

  • Re: New DirectX SDK (April 2007)

They found a critical bug and took it down. Should be back in a day or so... Dave mentioned it on his blog.

  • Re: Writing a GUI framework... Is it worth it?

s3graham: Shameless self-promotion: I just released the first version of a content pipeline plugin and runtime that supports using Flash to create your UI elements. If you're looking for a UI-type-thingy, you might want to check it out. It's called "Fluix", you can grab it from ...

  • Re: Making an installer for your XNA game (Windows)

If you want to integrate with Game Explorer, I'd suggest WiX regardless of whether a game uses the XNA Framework or not. I've used Inno for quite some time but I've lately found that preparing WI packages with WiX is a lot less annoying, although it is more work. Still, it's not too much more complicated; most of the extra work for ...

  • Re: Writing a GUI framework... Is it worth it?

Krisc: Righteous Tool: We're not releasing anything like that in April, if that's what you mean. It is something we're considering for a future version, but it's not in the ballpark of, say, the next six months. We probably won't announce what might be coming next (after the update in April) until about then. Note ...

  • Re: Making an installer for your XNA game (Windows)

Hey Pelle, I wrote an extension for Inno some time ago to hook in DSetup. I was more recently planning to add support for Game Explorer to it, but it's a bit of a pain to work with, and besides these days I work pretty much exclusively with WiX for installer packages.  You can find my extension at ...

  • Re: Methods of distribution

The best method of distribution for smaller, indie and casual games is through digital distribution services or online publishers such as Manifesto Games. Personally, I see self-distribution as the hard way of doing things, especially if you make a popular game. Remember that bandwidth isn't free, so if you're self-distributing a popular ...
