• What tools would you like to have custom built for you?

In reference to my previous post "Do indie game developers need better tools?" it left me wondering what kind of tools you would like to have built for you? What kind of tool would be of the greatest use to you? I'm trying to assess if it would be viable for me to build custom tools for a single developer but in a generic way, so ...

  • Re: How many Indie Game Developers exist?

Ok, let's try this approach and narrow it down to XNA then. More precisely all game developers who are using or have used XNA to work on a game title within the last 3 months, regardless of the platform (PC, 360, Zune) or monetization strategy (free, shareware, 360). I would call them "active developers". Looking at the 140k ...

  • Re: How many Indie Game Developers exist?

Errr, i didn't want to start a discussion about the term "Indie". I know it's not well defined and even subjective. I should have been clearer. ;) What i really meant by Indie Game Developer is: 1) An individual who creates computer/video games and is driven by interest and passion more than money and fame. Decisions ...

  • How many Indie Game Developers exist?

I apologize for this subject not being centered around XNA per se. I'm looking for market research data and such, that puts numbers on the Indie Game Development movement. How many developers exist, how much money they make on average, which platforms they prefer and why, and so on. I have had little luck finding anything concrete so far, ...

  • Re: Which tools do you need, but don't exist / don't satisfy your needs?
I'd like a tool that diagnoses and removes any bug in any third-party code I'm using
I think that already exists. It's called "Source Code" ;-) I'm saying that because without the sources it's wishful thinking to be able to diagnose or even repair bugs in 3rd party ...

Yes, exactly something like that. So if i understand correctly you want to animate characters by hand? What's the reason to not doing this in the modelling program directly? What exactly do you need to edit that isn't supported by C4D or other 3D modelling tools?

  • Which tools do you need, but don't exist / don't satisfy your needs?

This is in response to my other thread where i asked do Indie Game Developers needed better tools? Now i would like to know specifically: which tools do you need? Which tools are supposed to do what you need but don't do it right? I'm asking because there are so many tools out there ... asset pipelines, terrain editors, complete ...

  • Re: Monetizing an XNA Game Engine

Selling documentation is a bad idea. It's a bit like giving away the car for free but charging only for the keys. If you know how you'll be able to start the car and get away with it for an incredible price (free) but most people won't, so they'll just look for something else. I also beg to differ about the Open Source part. Yes ...

Gleed2D? Never heard of that, thanks for mentioning it. It sounds and looks promising and i'm positively surprised to also see tutorial videos, very nice! Too bad it seems dead now after only 2 weeks of frequent updates, and the forum is full of spam and ***. :( ... (nice, the forum automatically added the *** for the "po*n" word ...
