If you want to do multiplatform programming, learn C++ and OpenGL. If you want to program on an inexpensive platform with a high adoption rate, learn C# and XNA. DX9 vs DX10 is irrelevant, most especially because you personally will not need the features of DX10 any time soon.

Well, I uninstalled EVERYTHING, reinstalled VS 2008, and the crash happened again. I didn't install any service packs first tho... Maybe that's my issue.

Now that I uninstalled XNA 3.1, XNA 3.0 won't install without crashing as well. Looks like I have to completely re-install VS 2008 pro. I was wondering what I was going to do with all my free time today...

I tried reinstalling. While reinstalling the VS 2008 Pro files for XNA 3.1, a crash dialog for VS 2008 Pro shows up. So it appears that installation of XNA 3.1 for VS 2008 Pro is failing. I have no idea what is causing this.
