  • Re: NetworkGameStateManagement & DrawOrder

Thanks a bunch to you both!  I read Shawn's blog a couple weeks ago, but for some reason it didn't click until I just reread it.  jwatte, I follow what you're saying as well, and the fact that the BackgroundScreen and PauseScreen needed to be two separate Components is what threw me off initially. Thanks again for the help!   I ...

  • NetworkGameStateManagement & DrawOrder

I was wondering if anyone ran into this or could offer any insights.  I am developing a game using the NetworkGameStateManagement sample as a template.  On the menu screens, I would like to draw items from other Components that I've created.  For example, I'd like to draw either sprites or 3D models, and I have 2 Components called ...

  • Re: Avatar Usage - Talking

I agree with SRH in that I'm really happy to be discussing this now instead of after people who have put a fair number of hours into their game get failed Peer Reviews.  That's actually why I wanted to ask the forum, since they will largely be the peer reviewers themselves. That being said, I'd like to probe on a couple thoughts ...

  • Re: Avatar Usage - Talking

ZMan & Jim:  Thanks for your comments on the interpretation of the avatar rules.  I've read them in this posting and others, and I respect your inputs.  Lke others, I'd like to make sure I don't get too far down a path of avatar usage, only to have it rejected in Peer Review.  Could you (or anyone else) give me feedback on how ...

  • Any downside to entering DBP?

My development partner and I started in on a game a few months ago, with an end goal of entering it into DBP.  We always said we would get to July 1, and decide if we were going to enter the game or not. It's now July 1.  We're doing pretty well, but I doubt that by August 6 we'll have the game polished to the level that it would ...

  • Re: Need help with loading Avaters from Gamertag

Uber: Not sure what my earlier problem was, but I was running your AvatarWrapper on my laptop.  I loaded it on my full dev machine, and it worked just fine.  Nice to see it in action!  My dev machine is on a different floor from my 360, so if I get into any heavy avatar animations I'll likely use your wrapper to keep me from running up and ...

  • Re: Need help with loading Avaters from Gamertag

Hey Uber, Nice work on the Avatar Wrapper!  Wasn't sure if I should post this here or on the thread you linked to above, but here goes: I downloaded your AvatarWrapper 2.1 solution, and tried to just compile it "out of the box" to see what it would do.  I received the following error: Error 1 Cannot find importer ...

  • Re: Xna 3.0 Book "O'reily" Questions ?

I very much agree, Kris.  Actually, one of the things I liked about the O'Reilly book was that it had the best of both worlds.  The book only lists the specific things inline with what the text is talking about, but then the supporting website lists out the complete code in one place for those that need it.

  • Re: Xna 3.0 Book "O'reily" Questions ?

The two error messages you listed were from the classes: EvadingSprite and UserControlledSprite.  However, the code that you copied into your pastebin website contained 4 other classes, not the 2 with an error. Did you look at the website I suggested????? http://aaronreed.com/serenitynow/?page_id=88 At the bottom of this web page are the ...

  • Re: Xna 3.0 Book "O'reily" Questions ?

Sorry, but I had exactly the opposite experience.  I love this book.  I thought it was well laid out, and was the best book I've seen on XNA development.  I've got 2 other XNA books, and this is definitely my favorite of the three. Hopefully this will help: http://aaronreed.com/serenitynow/?page_id=88 At the bottom of this ...
