not much time for the contest

    Hi,

this time, in my opinion, you have made the timeframe for the competition very short, too short for me. From now on this is only about 1,5 months. This is ok for somebody who is working all day and night on his title, but not for someone, who wants to do it beside his work, like me. I have good ideas for this contest, but I know, that I do not have enough time to realize them till 27th of Jan. 08....

Is there a reason, why you made the timeframe so short this time? Or am I wrong, and this period is only for the warmup??

    Many Greetings,

    Oliver

Yep, this short time frame is only for the warmup.

This is just a warmup challenge before the "real" DBP one is announced, as far as I can tell.

Re: not much time for the contest

I only have the information available on the DreamBuildPlay website and it makes no mention of it at this time. My guess would be that it will start shortly after the warmup challenge ends, but that is only a guess. I have no idea when the main contest will begin or how long it may run.

For the warm up challenge (which I highly recommend entering!) I would suggest making a very small game, something that demonstrates some clever A.I. but doesn't require a lot of graphics, sounds and millions of lines of code. The warm up contests are an excellent opportunity to sharpen some of those game developments skills by giving yourself quick deadlines to actually have a finished and working game completed.

Best of luck and stay tuned to the Dream Build Play website for more information about the main challenge.

The problem is that to be above and beyond what others are doing, you are going to be spending a lot of time on it already. Given such a short timeframe (a little more than a month left) you will be spending even more time on it. Luckily for those in college, Christmas break couldn't have come at a better time.

I wish it were due in February but the fact that the GDC is in February this year (early, right?) seems to have forced the turn in date up a lot.

    Hi,

Can someone clarify: What is the exact deadline time for the submission on sunday, the 27th Jan 08?

We're over here in Switzerland (Europe) and need to know when the deadline exactly ends... (GMT, CET, whatever)

Thx for the clarification in advance & best regards!

According to the bottom of the Dream-Build-Play website:

Official entry period is from 20/12/07 at 12:00 AM Central Time ("CT") (CT = GMT - 06:00) through 27/1/08 at 11:59:59 PM CT. Subject to full Official Rules found at www.DreamBuildPlay.com. Void where prohibited.
