A couple of my students had been successfully using XACT to create sound projects for their games. All of a sudden, two of the Vista computers' XACT installations stopped working and will no longer come up. You get that goofy Vista popup "XACT has stopped working, Windows is looking for a solution".
It's as though there's a corrupt file or something in the XACT program.
The computer logs don't give me much information apart from there is a problem.
This isn't the HTTP port 80 problem other forum posts have been talking about. Got that one figured out. In this case XACT will simply not launch. The auditioning utility launches OK.
What do I do? Reinstall GS 2.0? Is there a standalone version of XACT I can download and reinstall? Is there an update to XACT?
I've got to say this: The sooner Microsoft rewrites the XACT kludge and ports it into GS, the better off we'll be! Very weird software indeed!
